The NFL is Staying on the Sinking Ship of Wokeism by Choosing Kendrick Lamar for its Halftime Show Performer.

The Super Bowl halftime show has traditionally served as a unifying spectacle, offering entertainment that bridges diverse audiences and provides a nice break from politics. However, the NFL’s poor decision to feature Kendrick Lamar in the 2025 halftime performance has ignited significant controversy, with many fans contending that the league has prioritized a divisive political agenda over universal appeal.

A History of Controversial Activism

Kendrick Lamar has built his career on controversial themes that often polarize audiences. For example, his 2015 track “The Blacker the Berry” features lyrics that have been criticized for equating black-on-black crime with police brutality. Additionally, Lamar has been an outspoken supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and has defended figures like Colin Kaepernick. In addition, Lamar’s 2015 anti-police themed track “Alright” was used as a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement.

A Divisive Performance

Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show intensified the controversy. The performance included a “diss track” targeting fellow rapper Drake, which escalated into a defamation lawsuit. Moreover, the show featured themes that some interpreted as glorifying street gangs and promoting black nationalism, content that many viewers found inappropriate for a family-oriented event. Lamar’s performance was nothing more than a polarizing performance that destroyed the inclusive spirit the Super Bowl should embody.

Audience Backlash

Despite attracting a record-breaking 133.5 million viewers, the performance’s reception was far from universally positive. Notably, the NFL issued an apology to Lil Wayne, who was reportedly snubbed in favor of Lamar, acknowledging the misstep in their selection process. This incident has fueled discussions about the NFL’s decision-making and its potential misalignment with the preferences of its diverse fan base.

Industry Criticism

The performance also drew sharp criticism from industry figures. Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher labeled Lamar’s halftime show as “absolute nonsense,” reflecting a sentiment that the performance lacked the broad appeal typically associated with such a high-profile event.

Reevaluating Entertainment Choices

The controversy surrounding Lamar’s halftime show underscores how out of touch the NFL is with its audience in selecting a performer who fail to resonate with the majority of Americans. While artistic expression is vital, the NFL should select future artists and genres that foster unity and shared enjoyment among all viewers, rather than staying its woke path that Americans clearly rejected last November.
